It’s been on my heart to start a blog for a while now. As an introvert, I have carefully thought about several details and topics for this blog, and after thinking, I thought some more. I am a bit of a perfectionist and will probably re-word each post 50 times before publishing. I have more of a math/science brain and don’t particularly enjoy “creative” writing. I also don’t like sharing my personal experiences with just anybody. However, I believe it’s what God wants me to do. So, here it goes.
The inspiration for the name of my blog comes from Rosa Parks’ biography entitled “Quiet Strength.” When you think about Rosa Parks, you think about the woman who didn’t give up her bus seat to a white person even though the law required her to do so. Unlike Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., you probably can’t think of an iconic speech she gave, yet she is easily recognized as playing a major role in the civil rights movement. She was not the most outgoing or outspoken person, but she stayed strong in her convictions throughout her life. I’d like to think my personality is similar to hers. I’m definitely not one to organize a rally or start some kind of movement, but I try pretty hard to support the principles I value and not compromise them.
(Side note: I love that “Quiet Strength” is short enough to read in a single sitting, and I highly recommend you read it. If I ever write a biography, it will probably be just as short if not shorter.)
Western culture has done a good job at suppressing the introverted personality. I cannot count the number of times people have tried to “encourage” me to become more outgoing, more talkative, and to “come out of my shell.” Thankfully, I was raised as a Christian and I know that my identity is in Jesus Christ. I know that God gave me the personality I have for a reason and I’m not supposed to become an extrovert to accomplish what He wants me to do. I hope to encourage you that God has given you just the right personality, gifts, and talents to fulfill your purpose, and I leave you with the following verse:
“Just as each one of you has received a special gift [a spiritual talent, an ability graciously given by God], employ it in serving one another as [is appropriate for] good stewards of God’s multi-faceted grace [faithfully using the diverse, varied gifts and abilities granted to Christians by God’s unmerited favor]. Whoever speaks [to the congregation], is to do so as one who speaks the oracles (utterances, the very words) of God. Whoever serves [the congregation] is to do so as one who serves by the strength which God [abundantly] supplies, so that in all things God may be glorified [honored and magnified] through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever.
